Detail Itinerary

  • Welcome to gateway to Northeast

Arrive around noon hour at Guwahati Airport also known as Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Proceed to Hotel in group. After check in to the hotel, spend your time leisurely in local shopping. You may also go to the Kamakhya Devi Temple, one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas, situated on the Nilachal Hill in western part of Guwahati. It is an important pilgrimage destination for Hindu and especially for Tantric worshipers. Return back to Hotel for dinner and good night sleep.

  • Scenic drive to Shillong

Post breakfast, drive to Shillong (4 hours), the capital city of Meghalaya. Positioned amidst high plateaus, waterfalls, meandering rivers and thick pine groves, Shillong, is a natural splendor. Shillong came into its own under the British as a garrison town, and retains a laidback colonial charm, with its cathedrals and cottages dating from that era.

Post lunch, we shall be visiting one of the popular tourist spots of Shillong - Don Bosco Musuem. At Don Bosco Musuem, you will get a glimpse of the rich and multi-cultural lifestyles of the indigenous peoples of North East India.

Later, we will check into the hotel in Shillong. Spend your evening at leisure at local market. Return back to hotel where you can relish dinner and then have a good night sleep.

  • A Hidden Paradise and a Cleanest Village

After breakfast, leave for Mawlynnong , a tiny village on the Indo Bangla border, which has earned the distinction of being the cleanest village in Asia.

On the way, we will visit the Dawki , a small border town located on Jaintia Hills and is famous for river Umngot. The river with its greenish-bluish water, is so clear that one can see the bottom of the river even from as high as the bridge over the river. Enjoy boating on the crystal clear water of the lake where one will feel like floating over a big aquarium. Dawki, also known as Tamabil, is the border of the Countries of India and Bangladesh and an important trade route. It gives you an opportunity to reach the famous Pillar numbered 1275 that marks the International Border.

We will continue to travel towards Mawlynnong, God's own garden. Villagers have transformed this village into a picture postcard by planting many flowering plants alongside the footpaths and around their houses. Every villager participates in voluntarily cleaning up the village on a daily basis. In this picturesque village, we shall walk for about 20-30 mins on hilly slope to reach Living root bridge. The roots of two huge trees have gotten intertwined, spanning across the river to form the bridge. In the afternoon, drive back to Shillong and post dinner enter into your dream world.

  • The Sacred grove, Caves and Waterfalls

Once the first rays of the sun barge into your room to let you know that the day is fresh and new, we will start our day with palatable local breakfast and then proceed to the wettest place on Earth, Cherrapunji.

On the way, we shall visit, Mawphlang Sacred Forest, spread across 78 hectares of land and protected by the local deity-Labasa and Lyngdoh clan for more than 1000 years. Cutting down any tree or branch here is taboo. The forest is treasure trove of 450 species of trees and plants as well as rare species of animals and birds. It is also home to several species of trees that work as climate indicators, such as the Japanese blue oak and griffitti. There are medicinal trees and plants like the English yew, the Chinese sumac, chinquapin, etc.

We will continue our journey towards Cherrapunji. High above misty valleys and foaming rivers ensconced in swirling clouds and perched on an escarpment, Cherrapunji lies at 4,500 feet above sea level. This stunning location with year-round rain earned coveted entry long ago into the Guinness Book of World Records as the wettest place on earth, where the rainfall is generally recorded in feet rather than in millimeters. This pristine land with ever-lasting beauty, is perhaps the only place in India, which has just one season - the monsoon. Rainfall varies from heavy, medium to light, but there is no month without rain. Another surprising fact about Cherrapunji is that, it rains mostly at night. Day -to-day activities do not get disrupted by the rain.

Post lunch, you have an option of discovering the Mawsmai cave on a guided walk. This cave is 820 feet long which is lit up with halogen lamps, which are awe-inspiring, spine-tingling and mysterious. It is definitely a thrilling and magical experience to have a peek at the underground world. We shall stay at Cherrapunji.

  • Living Root Bridge

Today after a lazy breakfast, you will have an option to spend your time at leisure enjoying the natural beauty of abode of cloud. If you are physically fit for trekking, then proceed to a unique living root bridges also known as the 'Double Decker Root Bridge', which is 3 km long and begins from Tyrna Village. The bridge stands at a height of 2400 feet. Reaching the upper bridge, which is 20 meter long is a tough but a worth -it task. Please take note that one needs to be physically fit to reach the upper bridge. The oldest living root bridge of the region is at a height of 1400 feet and is 74 m long. Created by the people of the Khasi tribe, these roots grow from the ancient rubber trees and are trained by the Khasis to grow in such a manner as be in the form of bridges on the top of a river. These bridges are an amazing alternative to wooden bridges that dwindle with so much rain falling on them.

Post lunch, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, the 4th highest waterfall in the world, simply splendid and magnificent. Later, admire the astonoshing view of Mawsmai Falls, regarded as the 4th highest falls in India and also known as the Seven Sisters falls which is aptly derived from the way the falls runs down from the top of treacherous limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills.

  • Guwahati Sightseeing

As the fresh morning breeze promise you another wonderful day, we shall proceed back to Guwahati. On the way visit beautiful Elephant Waterfalls and Uniam Lake or 'Bara Pani', surrounded by coniferous forests and stretching over an area of about 221 square kilometres.

Upon reaching Guwahati, proceed to hotel and check in. Enjoy your sumptuous meal and sleep gently in tranquil land.

  • Departure From Guwahati

As you come out of your dream world and the fresh morning breeze promise you another wonderful day post breakfast, proceed towards the airport to fly back home carrying the good memories of this journey in our hearts.
