Overview

'Kalpavriksha' - The Tree of Life appears in mythology, philosophy, religion and alludes to the interconnection of all life on our planet. Swirling branches reaching for the sky, and deep roots into the earth beneath, creates the connection between heaven and earth. Intricately decorated with animals, birds, peacocks and colorful flowers, the Tree of Life is a recurring theme in many folk arts of India, including Madhubani, Gond, Kalamkari or Warli.

Learn painting 'Tree of Life', in Kalamkari, an Indian folk art that dates back to 3000 BC, and later flourished in the 16th and 17th century Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Kalamkari, which means Kalam ( Pen) and Kari (Craftsmanship) has been used for the art of storytelling by singers, musicians, and painters who used to travel to villages and used canvas paintings to depict stories of mythology and life.
